The Black Order of Vinland (BOV) is an esoteric society based out of North America founded for the purpose of aiding the spiritual development of those initiated into our kurrent and directing their efforts toward the fulfillment of certain greater, supra-personal esoteric aims, including:
- the development and proliferation of Dark Heathenism, a new LHP tradition of witchcraft appropriate to North America in this Age of Aquarius;
- the passing down of this living tradition to the next generation of magickians who represent the future of our Tribe;
- the acquisition of Lebensraum–at least 10 acres of rural land suitable for farming–for the establishment of an esoteric community where a numinous, Pagan way of living may be enacted, the establishment of such a community and its survival generation after generation being the highest form of magick possible on this Earth planet.
The above may be summarized as the creation of a living, ancestral occult heritage based on an esoteric tradition whose very core lies in a certain sacred site set up by the progenitors of said tradition. The enactment of this long-term magickal strategy implies the organization of people of a certain type and not only their cooperation over the course of many decades, but the rearing of their children as the future of this mission, and this further implies a certain type of ethos shared by those individuals so participating. This ethos, referred to as either the Code of Kindred Honor or the Law of the Sinister-Numen, is the very lifeblood of the BOV, and initiation into our Tribe involves, in part, a blood oath to live one’s life according to this ethos. Thus is the magickal strategy of the BOV enshrined in the motto: Land, Family, Tradition.
Though we are inspired by the European Pagan ways of our ancestors, there is no need to slavishly adhere to the ways of old when we can be the start of something new. “Pagan” originally referred to those people dwelling in the rural countryside who refused to program to the whims of the new Christian religion. What, then, does it really matter if one has internalized all of the Eddas and has the fanciest altar for the Aesir when they are totally removed from Nature and live their lives as slaves to the global moneyed elites? The BOV emphatically rejects this misguided conception of Paganism and instead we aspire toward recapturing the lost essence which no amount of scholarly, religious devotion to the remaining fragments of Heathen lore can ever bring. Thus does Dark Heathenism stand apart, as it seeks to evolve the wisdom of the ancients in a modern day context and to enact a certain way of life without which the mythos is ultimately meaningless.
The esoteric kurrent of Dark Heathenism is essentially a hermetic one, rooted in Hebdomadry and further informed by Northern European lore and American witchcraft, with additional elements of Eastern mysticism such as meditation and yoga. With every committed vitki who works with our Kurrent new developments may emerge and thus the tradition may be evolved further, however there are core elements representing the very spirit of Dark Heathenism which are set in stone and thus to be preserved across time. The Runes, in particular, are at the center of our unique mysticism and, in addition to their use in witchcraft, serve as teaching tools which are used to convey certain lessons of our Sinisterly-Numinous kurrent. Furthermore our initiatory structure is divided into three degrees, in keeping with most mainline Western traditions of witchcraft, and is so designed that individuals working alone may develop their latent spiritual abilities and thence go on to start a cell of the BOV in their own area–however this represents only the beginnings of the Great Work and serves simply to provide a basis for the propagation of the Order.
